On 20th November 2016 Consul General of Poland, Mr. Leszek Rowicki, attended Poland's National Independence Day Celebrations held at the Parish Hall of the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Manchester.

The official part of celebrations began with all participants singing the National Anthem of Poland and was followed by performance by “Polonez”, a Manchester-based Polish folk band. After the music stopped, a member of the Consulate's personnel, Mr. Grzegorz Bendarski, presented a paper on Poland’s fight for independence, transporting the audience back to the dramatic events of 1918. Later on, all the guests, encouraged by Scouts and Cub scouts from Manchester- and Blackpool-based “Gdynia” Scout troops and led by the “Kabaret” music band, sang together Polish patriotic songs. Traditionally, Independence Day celebrations were also a perfect occasion for the guests to discuss – enjoying in the meantime some tasty Polish treats provided by the organizers – plans for future community-bonding events.
