On 11th November 2016, Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Manchester hosted celebrations commemorating the 98th anniversary of Poland’s regaining independence.

Consul General, Mr. Leszek Rowicki, who began celebrations by outlining Poland’s road to independence, emphasized the importance of this dramatic struggle to make Poland reappear on the map of Europe. Addressing numerous audience, and older guests including Polish emigrants and World War II veterans in particular, Consul Rowicki thanked them for their vivid memory and long-term involvement in commemorating - across the whole of the United Kingdom – those who fought for Poland’s independence.

As part of the main celebrations, Consulate General hosted a soprano singer, Ms. Izabella Goldstein, who encouraged the audience to sing along as she presented a repertoire of Polish patriotic songs.

Following tradition, all the invited representatives and members of the large Polish community based in this part of the United Kingdom could taste some delicious specialties of Polish cuisine, and see large-format photography exhibition depicting World Youth Day 2016 held in Poland this summer.
